Fundamentals:

The Grip
In the address position, you must, while visualising the shot, stroke the cue in the air to get a positive feel in your grip for the shot required. You should reach all backstroke grip positions twice, during backstroke and again during follow through…Grip is beginning to open…

The Bridge
The open hand bridge.
Lay your hand flat on the table with fingers together. Note the middle finger is pointing at 12 o’clock…

The Stance
Stances will vary from shot to shot, my normal rule of thumb is… The distance separating the cueball from an objectball, dictates the width of stance. The closer the cueball and objectball are to oneanother, the narrower the stance. Why are my feet close together here?

Stroke / Aiming
Your stroke should be smooth enough to allow you to close your eyes before the last stroke…

Addressing the Ball
Addressing the ball, the most important step toward improvement in shotmaking…

Advanced:

English
The reason amateurs and pros alike find it hard to aim, and therefore pocket balls while aiming with ENGLISH is twofold…

Banking / Kicking
BANKING MEASUREMENTS ARE TAKEN AT OR BETWEEN DIAMONDS, NOT BESIDE THE CUSHION IN FRONT OF THE DIAMONDS, ALL MY NUMBERS ARE BETWEEN THE DIAMONDS ON ALL RAILS…

Combinations / Throw
Shooting combos when the object balls are more than 1/64th of an inch apart requires the player to cut the 1st. ob just as if they were 2 feet apart. Shooting combos when the obs are frozen, or almost frozen to each other ( less than 1/64th” ) apart is an altogether different proposition, and just the opposite of what you might normally think. Here are just a few examples…

Masse / Kiss
Your stroke should be smooth enough to allow you to close your eyes before the last stroke…

The Jump Shot
Jump shots are made by hitting down sharply with a firm jab stroke. Aim the cb at center like a normal stop shot, then elevate the cue as much as you think is necessary to execute the jump successfully…
